Our Mission

For almost a decade, La Lune De Mort has worked non-hierarchically to create our interactive ritual plays.

In a system that rewards the burn-out of people and resources and the drop-out of femmes and women to provide unpaid labor, our definition of success is the degree to which we keep ourselves and others vital through our performance work.

We aim to function from a place of “blissipline” and grace for ourselves and extend that suppleness to our audience and collaborators.

Our Story

We gave glorious birth to our ensemble La Lune De Mort (previously La Lune De Femme) in 2013 through work at Salonathon, a weekly salon of queer, underground, and genre-defying art in Chicago. Eve Rydberg (Director) and Jessica Marks (musician) approached Caroline Kingsley (comedian) and several others to create their interactive ritual play “She Is Risen”.

We further developed the ritual at “VAGINA”, a female focused multi-media arts festival. After two sold-out runs of “She Is Risen” in Chicago, we were invited to perform at the New Orleans Fringe Fest, Asheville Fringe Arts Festival, and Sh'Bang! A Festival of Ideas in Bellingham, WA. During a residency at the University of Chicago, we developed a climate crisis-based late night show, “The Violet Hour” which currently runs at Caveat in New York, as well as an exploration of the underworld, “Greater Mysteries” in Los Angeles.

We then joined forces with death and grief advocacy project “death, me, dying tree”, to devise experiences in Chicago, at Desert Aids Project of Palms Springs, and a virtual experiment on grief, joy and embracing death. In 2021, we changed our name officially to La Lune De Mort to signify our commitment to a continued focus on climate-grief based comedy rituals.

We’re beginning development on our most ambitious project yet - a national tour of our climate grief ritual, “YOUR FUNERAL: a celebration of life on the eve of the sixth mass extinction.”
